It’s dirt season, which means my husband works long hours and our conversations happen at 5am over a cup of coffee before he runs out the door. Dirt season is a grind. The alarm goes off right after you shut your eyes it seems, but you have to make hay while the sun shines, right? I’m sure there are a lot of you reading this who can relate.
Each working season I’m reminded how hard my husband works and just how grateful I am that God brought us together.
This year however, I’m feeling even more thankful for this guy. He’s been navigating a lot during our home build and I literally couldn’t be prouder of him and how he handles things. He’s calm, thoughtful, and embraces the chaos when it comes. If you know me, I’m the part of the chaos sometimes and there isn’t much calm most days, so I really appreciate his even keel approach to things lately. He keeps me grounded and really just helps bring things into perspective. He also is really good at explaining what is happening because this girl has no idea some days!

My hubby and I first met when I moved from my hometown to lakes area. His cousin introduced us and we instantly hit it off. We had been together for a few years before Devon proposed on top of a local mountain over looking our favorite fishing lake. We got married in January of 2018 because winter is our favorite.

In December of this year, it’ll be ten years since our paths have crossed and we started spending time together. It just seems crazy that this guy has been by my side for that long. Ever since that December day when we met we’ve been navigating dirt season and savoring the non working hours together. Those non working days are my favorite days of the week because I get to spend them with my favorite guy and since I’m feeling a little sappy and extra grateful, I’m going to share a few reasons why Devon’s my favorite.
- He loves Jesus and loves going to church with me. It’s one of our favorite days of the week. We go to church, get our groceries, have lunch out sometimes or get a Caribou Coffee treat!
- He wears a robe on the weekend mornings and drinks coffee on the deck. This might seem silly, but it’s my favorite because he really takes time to just soak in the little things around him.
- He will help anyone whenever he can. His time is limited during the working season, but if he can help you, he will and that just makes me so happy.
- He loves Jason Aldean and he will sing his songs loud and proud for all to hear when he’s feeling up to it. (If you know, you know) He might not know all the words, but it’s like I’m at an Aldean concert and it’s the best.
- He’s always up for an adventure. He loves to travel with me. Go to random places with me and will always be okay with going with the flow. Me on the other hand, I like to have a plan before going so it’s a good balance for us.
- He laughs at my silly comments and jokes that aren’t that funny. He gets my humor and I appreciate that.
- He will out fish me almost every time but is literally so proud of me when I catch one.
- He’s my cooking and baking judge. If I make something new, he’s the one to taste it first and give feedback. He delivers the feedback like he’s Guy Fieri tasting food on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives and it’s always hilarious.
- He always says I love you when I call him before he hangs up the phone. Makes me smile every time.
- He’s literally my biggest fan. He will cheer me on with whatever I do, even if it’s not his favorite thing to do.

So in the midst of dirt season, when the days get long and the time with my hubby may be short, I’m feeling thankful that I get to be married to my favorite person.
