Blog Eight: What made your heart happy this week?

There are a lot of things that make my heart happy and I find that when I can focus on those things, life is just so sweet.

I spent A LOT of time the last couple of weeks cooking in my little kitchen. Some of my recipes turned out great, others did not (I should’ve taken a picture of my sour dough bread that was a complete fail) It isn’t always rainbows and butterflies here.

I made desserts, homemade bread, meals, caramel rolls, sandwiches, the list goes on. Some weeks look like this, others not so much. Some weeks I barely make a meal for supper and we eat frozen pizza or whatever leftovers I have on hand. But I must say the weeks that I cook a lot, my heart is just so happy.

With a lot of cooking and baking comes a HUGE mess in my kitchen. With a huge mess comes clean up time and a little complaining to myself on why I didn’t clean as I go like I teach my students to do. Regardless of the process, my heart is just so happy.

When my food preparation has a purpose it really just was good for my soul. We currently are in the middle of building a home and our builders have been working so hard, so I wanted to bring them a treat.

Sometimes being a teacher on summer break can be tricky. You go all school year running around like a crazy person and then it just stops. Baking and cooking helps fill my time and really give me a purpose on the days I don’t have things going on.

The one day when I arrived with the treats, the crew took a quick break to visit and enjoy what I had brought. It had brought me so much joy seeing them dive into what I spent all morning making. Not only did it make my heart happy, it made them happy too, I think anyway.

Besides cooking and baking, spending time with my sweet friends also makes my heart happy. On a trip to get materials for our builder, I swung by my friend Taylor’s house to snuggle her sweet baby girl, Leni. There truly isn’t anything sweeter than watching one of your closest friends become a mom. And let’s be honest, snuggling the cutest baby just really makes your heart happy.

Another thing that makes me happy is being at my favorite place. Whether I’m on the kayak, taking in the sunset, or just relaxing, my heart is happy. It also makes my heart happy watching the builders bring our dream to life. I’m just so grateful for them and their work.

It’s my hope that you all had something that you did this week that made your heart happy. Maybe for you it’s going for a walk, spending time with your friends or family, painting, taking pictures, fishing—whatever it is, I hope you’re able to have something that just makes your heart happy. Whatever that item is, make sure you make time to enjoy that item weekly. You’ll be impressed with how good it’ll make you feel.

Taylor, reading your blog this week made my heart happy. Overall, my week was not spent being thankful or purposeful but you, sweet lady, reminded me how I could let the week end in a different way. Keep shining!
